Mac10
Someone on this board advised me I could coat my jigheads with epoxy (Dev Con) from Wal Mart. They also stated it's good to use a little alcohol to thin the epoxy before use. Here is my question....what type of alcohol? Will rubbing alcohol work, or do I need another type such as pure wood alcohol???? Thanks for your help, and Good Fishing, Mac
philB
Hi Mac Epoxies are a thing I have learnt a lot about just recently. I have succesfully thinned 3 different types of epoxy with cellulose thinners. Any solvent such as Acetone should work, the following is a quote from an epoxy site. 24. Adding a bit of solvent to a solvent based or solvent-free epoxy is something that most manufacturers would not officially approve of and something that might not work with all epoxies. However, it can be done (unofficially) with the epoxies I deal with. Adding solvent to these epoxies will: 1) thin them out; 2) increase potlife; 3) allows them to flow off the brush/roller a bit more smoothly; and 4) perhaps allows them to
Mac10
Thanks, PhilB, I appreciate the information greatly. I'll be using denatured alcohol as acetone fumes bother a bit. Thinning also can weaken the epoxy itself I have learned, on another board and it should really be added to the resin itself before mixing in the hardener. I'll not be going near the 12 percent level as a little goes a goodly way. Thanks again, and good fishing, Mac p.s. Cheers!
