icejigs
When tying bucktail onto a treble hook what kind of thread should I use. I found Jig tying thread at Jann's Netcraft but not sure if thats the stuff I should use. Thanks Josh
siebler_custom_baits
Thats the thread that will do it well. A heavy Fly tying thread will also do it ( its the same thing really)
Party Crasher
I like the Kevlar threads. You can really bare down on it without breaking.
PaMuskyHunter
I agree with party crasher, get some kevlar thread and wrap away!
Troul Hawk
Kevlar is awesome, but know that too much pressure can indeed cut through the hair.
LedHed
Kevlar is >$2 a spool versus <$1 a spool for 3/0 or flat wax. Flat wax gives you a way smoother wrap – looks a lot cleaner. You can use a B or C rod wrapping thread also. Kevlar can cut itself, you, and the bucktail.
Party Crasher
I attach the hair with Kevlar. I finish the head with red A and top-coat that with Flex-coat. I've never had the kevlar cut anything. I did get this stuff from a fly shop once. It was from Germany. Wow. This was the strongest stuff I ever saw. Fly tyers who spin deer hair bass bugs use it. I think you could bend the hook in the vice before this stuff broke.
Rollo
I've heard of guys using dental floss to tie bucktail. I've never tried it, though. (Except for running it between my choppers!)
