painting reel seats....?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone paint theyr own reel seats? Just curios, since i'm starting building my own rods, since i always want more from wha the factory ones can offer me.... I thik there's always the possibility to make it better.

Im thinking of making a reel seat either shiny black....i think that could be made pretty easy...using some black paint pigment, and some flexcoat lite, or envirotex. of course after thoroughly sanding the reel seat, and removing any debry.

That, or thinking of making a brown(light brown with black, and whitish) marble painted reel seat. I think that could be made the same. Mixing epoxy with brown pigment, after that another mox of black, and white pigment. I guess the way to make it is aplying the brown color first, and after adding small stripes of the other 2 colors, and using ur brush to make the effect look better, and sorta blend in....

Am i right about this? or?

It sounds right, if you want some really nice colors, go to a specialty paint store and get some automotive paint. Think of a metel flake orange reel seat. Now that would be hot! Oh and auto paint has to be airbrushed to look good. You can also go to a hobbytown usa and get some of there rc car paints and go over them with thined epoxy or auto clear coat(urethane).
