willie525
have any of you guys ever poured soft plastic into a jig mold it looks like a jig with a REALY slow fall
donkjc2
Itried it with my pony head mold, didn't like it. Another thing I tried, that works well, is to use a hot glue gun and inject it into the molds. You need to smoke the mold first or it's hard to get them out. I have been keeping that one a secret for a while, but it's funner to share.

gtlegs
I plan on trying that hot glue method for sure!! -Trey
siebler_custom_baits
The hot glue does sound interesting. Especially for a jig that you want to pitch at docks. Slow fall but a large head. Ill definatly be making some of these.
willie525
we smoked our mold and it stuck but sprayed PAM on them and came right out, but when we molded lead the spru wouldn't come off at first and cooled too long and was too cold for the paint
willie525
i havent tried them yet beacause it been too cold 7-40 degrees but tried them in the aquarium

willie525
donkjc2 when you say hot glue do you mean glue or fishing plastic, that probally sounds stuipid
donkjc2
The glue you were asking about is the regular hot glue like used for making crafts. The only problem that I have had is finding a paint that will work well on the glue. I purchased the paint used for painting plastic and it seems to to ok with a top coat over it. They do make colored glue but the colors suck. It does work well around docks, I made some of the poison tail in the 1oz size and with a 44 strand skirt on it it barely even sinks. I tried putting on a small split shot to get it to sink a little faster.
willie525
i did the glue last night and it was pretty cool
willie525
i made them and try putting a fluke on it with a white skirt and use it as a jerkbait around treetops
nova
What about "coloring" the glue stick with permanent marker before you melt it in the mold. Should give a swirl effect or maybe not. Just a thought. www.novalures.com
willie525
if you can take fine tip sharpie and inject it in to it a alot there will be a slight yellow color
willie525
after a while we got a yellow red swirl that was really good on one but not the others
nova
Take a small "hot" needle and burn holes right through the gluestick and then use the color making sure the holes have color in them. Maybe dipping dye would work as well. www.novalures.com
willie525
yeah that might work

Howard Capone
I use Food Grade Silicone #8036 made by crown. Spray the mold and let sit for 3-5 minutes and this will last for 8 to 10 castings.
kingfish
I made a bunch a few years back with the glue gun method and a 1/4 oz Do-It mold, painted the heads three tone with rattle cans, tied on a sparse amount of bucktail in three colors and sold them as suspending bucktails for walleye. The glue is fairly neutral bouyancy and the air cells in the bucktail compensates for the weight of the hook.

MicroSalm
I bought some slowfall jigs with a hard plastic head and thin wire hooks that Bassmasters magazine had an article about years ago. I can't remember the name or who made them but they had gray and white jigs as well as different fall rates. I do remember that you needed to use spinning tackle to cast them and a lot of patience. They work in the right situations.
kelly
there is colored hot glue used for fly tying to make fish egg patterns. layer that in the warm mold then squeeze the mold together.
