They took 5th and 12th place in the walleye derby last week. I will post a pic when my wife gets off the other computer. Saw a TV tour of the Bay DeNoc plant & they demonstrated how they were stamped from brass & polished. Pretty cool. They are a great jigging spoon. The curved body & keel on the bottom give them a great flutter on the drop. I've made some Hopkins spoon types out of stainless steel before that work really well. Stole a couple butter knives out of the silverware drawer, cut the handle to lengths & ground to the shape I wanted. Similar in weight to brass I believe. On a side note another spoon with a similar shape & action to a pimple is a Rattle Snakie Spoon. It's a lead spoon with a good flutter. Just a tad bit faster fall. Not always a bad thing. Also I've got a jigging spoon mold from Do-It I really like. It's a little wider & has the keel on the bottom, too. Some I've poured with lead & some with tin to lighten some up for a slower fall. 2/3 the weight of lead. Might be another option for ya. Party Crasher Posted March 1, 2007 Report Share Posted March 1, 2007 I pour the Do-It SWM jig (SWM-3-A) but not with the hook in it. I pour a wire in it so I end up with a loop on each end. Then I add a treble. I have found that pouring them with tin is better than lead. Better action. This one ends up looking a lot like a Swedish Pimple. I cut the brass to shape then then bend and fill the ends with rosin core solder and a layer along the rest of the brass for a good adhesion to the brass. Make sure you fill 1/4-3/8" of the points first with solder so the molten lead will not run off the ends of the brass. Then fill in the spots that need it with molten lead(make sure you cut a v groove bout 120* in a piece of wood to hold the brass).. After I am done with that I take a bastard file and shape the smooth side. Next I drill the holes with a 1/16" drill bit 1/16" away from each end, use a center punch to mark the spots for the hole on the front side of the brass). Then cover it with prism tape or dip it in primer and paint/decorate. Make sure you add split rings to each end though so that the thin brass will not cut your line.
