snooterfish
how deep could i get the crankbait to run (and run true) with the line tie in the crankbait body next to the lip instead of in the lip. i am looking for a running depth say 4 to 6 feet. i haven't learned how to put in a line tie in the bill without using the thru the lure wireing. I'm still learning, taking baby steps i looked thru previous post and couldn't find anything Richard
fatfingers
Getting one to run 4 to 6 feet should be very do-able using the method you'd like to try. Keep the lip about 1/2 or 2/3 as long as the lip you'd choose for a deep diver. When you attach the line tie to the bait you generally have to shorten the lip a bit. I tried what you described on some of my baits last year and they ran great.
BobP
Another thing is where the line tie is located. The closer to the surface of the lip, the more/wider action you get from the bait.
