Cartrpill
Anyone ever try painting lures upside down? A darker bottom, and lighter top? Will it catch fish? I'll be testing some out as soon as the lake thaws.
longball
Wait! Don't do it! It will only catch the fish that are swimming backwards.
bladesandbaits
I Paint Dying Flutter's-Devils Horse- and Bango Lures with upside down patterns quite frequently. I can't say they catch more fish but I certainly dont think it makes the lure less productive. Blades
Jason
It would make sense seeing that the fish would see the natural pattern instead of the fisherman.
clemmy
It's been done on and off for years, it's called countershading generally. The general idea is that if preyfish evolved through natural selection to blend in with their appropriate background, upside down should be more visible. It has never really caught on obviously. Personally, I like them! My view is I treat them like colorful baits like firetiger. Not entirely natural, but useful in less than clear water conditions. Of course if you are talking more of a walk-the-dog or twich bait, that's slightly different, this is done to immitate a (almost) dead prey imo. muskydan666
H!If I make a top water lure or a jerkbait.,I like to have dark colors on the belly and flo or very visible colors on the top!!The reason is simple!,Fish that pray on top water lure see it from below,so if the belly is white it will blend with the sky!!So less visible for tha fish! And the reason for the bright top is for the fisherman!Easy to see the lure in the water. cheers,Muskydan666
Terrydabassman
I've done several "belly-up" paint jobs with shap raps and rouge's.
LaPala
The nicest lure that is designed ground up to be upside down would be Megabass Anthrax. (I was inspired to design a few too , I might be showing it one day after I work out the effectiveness & kinks.)
