whibley
I tried epoxying for the 1st time on Friday Night. I touched my lures on Sunday morning and they were still a little sticky, is this bad? What should I do?
Vodkaman
It is usually either insufficient mixing or the proportions are wrong. This is a link to a recent discussion on the same problem, it should give you all the information that you need. http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7759&highlight=sticky Good luck. BobP
No idea which epoxy you used, but any of them should have been rock hard after 24 hrs. Problems with epoxy are almost always caused by what Vodkaman said. Either the hardener and resin were not measured 1:1 or you didn't mix them thoroughly enough. But all is not lost! If you mix a good batch and re-clearcoat the lure, the new epoxy will cause the soft stuff to cure too. You don't have to use lab equipment to measure but it needs to be approximately 1:1. I mix mine with a flat plastic stick for at least 1 minute and am careful that all the hardener and resin get mixed. Anything left unmixed at the edge of a container will not cure or will be soft. doomdart
Sometimes it seems the tacky problem can be helped by wiping the lure down with alcohol (denatured or rubbing), letting it air dry, then turning the lure by hand over a heat source (oven burner). If that doesn't fix the problem, then apply the second coat. Before stirring the epoxy to apply, eyeball it really well and make sure the pools are equal size. If one appears to be larger, just scrape a little off to the side. Once they look equal, then mix and apply.
