buckdawg
Got my melting pot, my lead, my mold, my hooks, my powder paint and my coffee filters/brown paper bags. I'm going to give this jig making a go this evening. Any last minute advice?

cadman
I'll second that. Definitely take your time with the lead part. Pour without distractions, so you don't get seriously burned. The rest of the painting part is just practice, practice and more practice.....
buckdawg
so far so good. i poured thirty or so jigs with only a few incompletes. the issue i had happen the most was the barb not making it. for the most part it was a positive experience and i'm hooked. buckdawg
'filters' for the homemade fluid bed. lol i think i may need a bigger air pump because the thing just burps a little along the edges.

buckdawg
Don't do it!!! Your wife and kids will never see you again!!! too late everything went pretty well, a lot better than I thought it would. I had a little trouble actually getting complete pours at first...mostly the barbs weren't getting completed. I practiced a little and now get about 75% - 80% good ones. the powder painting is going aight. i'm still experimenting but I just cannot get the fluid bed to suspend the powder and I've tried just about everything mentioned previously. I think tomorrow I may try the brush method and see if I can't better results. I'm getting too much paint on and it drips when it cures thus leaving me oblong shaped jigheads. not a huge deal because i can sand the paint down but it's kind of annoying nonetheless. basskat
Take a candle and smoke your mold, that should solve your incomplete barb problem.
