Musky_Stalker
Here is a batch of Spinners I just completed. I put extra weight, shrink wrap hooks, I use Owner Stinger trebles.
lostinthewoods
IMPRESSIVE! What type of skirt material did you use on the first 3?
Musky_Stalker
Thank You! I use Both regular and holographic Flashabou. I mix colors and sometimes tie marabou/hackle as trailers for more action. I usually tie to cut sections of surgical tubing. When you cinch the thread, it digs in. You can trim the tubing to create spacers between skirts. The head skirts are tied on brass skirt bodies.
Musky_Stalker
Just took them to the nearest pond and tested them. They worked fabulous! here are some more:
David Reid
Ah but did you catch any fish? Just shows you Fish are as stupid as Humans, we are all sucked in by a bit of skirt. I like your use of the cellphone in the pics, it gives a good idea of proportion. I note most of them are 2 bladed. Have you found 2 bladed ones work better than single blades? PaMuskyHunter
First off nice looking bucktails,i especially like the hackle and flashabou ones, good flash and flutter. 2 blades have more flash and vibration, they all have there time and place. just like single and tandem spinnerbaits have there time and place
Musky_Stalker
Double blades provide lift for buldging. For speed I use a single blade or smaller doubles.
David Reid
Hi PMH and MS, Thanks for your info. I know very little about Spinners and Skirts in general but interested in learning more as I wouldnt mind making some at some point and trying some down here in NZ. It was the first time I had seen double blades so naturally asked. I know you use them on Muskie and other freshwater fish. Most of my fishing is saltwater and I think spinners may work with some of our fish which are attracted by flash so wanting to find out more which I will over time. Rgrds. Musky_Stalker
Spinners should work excellent for saltwater fish, and I know NZ has some big trout. Trout love spinners. For the salt, I would use a willow leaf blade for maximum speed and flash.
David Reid
Hi Musky Stalker. Thanks for the advice. Might just get round to making and trying some of these shortly and seeing how they go. Is there some source of info on making these for saltwater do you know? Any pointers and refs appreciated. Yes NZ has some big trout alright but like everywhere in the world today they often dont get a chance to grow to the age and sizes they did previously . The rainbow and brown trout that came out of Lake Taupo in that period 1917 to 1922 before their numbers reached maximum sustainable levels were some of the biggest fish of their species ever caught. Mind you there are still some big trout and salmon in the South Island.
PaMuskyHunter
I use big bucktails for saltwater stripers and have had success. I had success with trolling bucktails in saltwater also with an umbrella rig.
