jigmaster
Ok, all of you who glue your guards in after painting...... How do you keep the weedguards in place while the glue is setting up? Do you build a fixture of some sort? any pictures would be welcome also.....what glue do you use? If someone can give me a quick overview of your process, I would appreciate it thanks in advance JM www.daimonlures.com
microtek60
your using the wrong size weedguards if you have to hold them in place. They should fit tight in the hole and the epoxy to keep them there. No special tools should be needed.
bassn1
I take a shallow pan and put about a half inch of salt or fine sand in the bottom to set the jigs on. My jigs lay flat with the weed guards up until the glue cures (takes 24 hours) I don't know the name of the glue but I get it at Wally World. It's water proof, smells like old fashion model glue and hangs next to the Devon 2T.
reeves
I saved some styrofoam from shipping items. They are about 2'X2' and 1" thick. Used 2" masking tape on the 4 edges so it is lapped over the top and side. Then with an Exacto knife I made a cut through the tape so the cut goes down the side and over the top. Make your slits about a half inch apart and you can get about 100 on a sheet. Then I just hold the jig by the hook bend and pull it into the slot to let them dry. I use the correct size weedguards, they are snug, I use this method for insurance more than anything to keep one from finding it's way out, if it can happen, it will happen to me. As for glue, I use Jet Glue - Extra Thick. It is a superglue that you can get in Radio Control Hobby stores. Comes in a 2oz. bottle that lasts forever. You can also get a fine nozzle tip to put on the bottle that really allows you to control the amout of glue going in that tiny hole. Jet Glue has a website, try www.jetglue.com and if that don't work, do a Google for jet glue. Hope this all is of help.
cadman
Jigmaster, I rarely use the same size weedguard, that is called for in the mold. Reason being they're too stiff. With that said, this is what I do. I always, dip my jigs head first in the powder paint, what this does is, it partially fills the weedguard hole with some paint. I bake the jigs. Next I find out how many strands of weedguard I'm going to use. Next I drill a hole slightly larger than all the strands combined. I next dip all my fused weedguards in Devcon 2T 5 minute, stick it in the snug hole, hang the jigs on a rack by the bend, so the base of the jig sits on the table, along a vertical plane. The weedguard should be in a vertical position. Just a note to all, I document all the hole sizes for all strands of weedguards. For example (4) strands of weedgurd may take an .015 dia. hole, and 30 strands may take a .120 dia. hole. The reason for doing this, is so I don't have to keep on guessing everytime I do this... I will post some pictures later today hopefully.......
outfshn
Jigmaster, I just started making my own jigs and found that regular superglue wicks up the weedguard and makes it way too stiff when it cures. A big no no. So I switched to the superglue gel, much thicker and doesn't wick. Picked it up at the local hardware store. They all turned out great now. As far as holding the weedguards in place, I just use a length of wood that I cut at a 45 degree angle and just lean them up against it as they setup and dry. Hope this helps, learned allot from this site and tried things myself to find out what works best for me. Gook luck.
gdowdy
Use heat glue. Many commercial companies have.
