shooty Posted March 18, 2007 Report Share Posted March 18, 2007 I have a Rick Clunn XPS bass pro brand real that I'm taking apart but having trouble getting the handle side off? is there anybody familiar with this real that can help? I do take apart Shimano Curado and Citicas so I am familiar with the workings of reals but I'm missing something on this thing. any help is apprieciated. texasbass1 Posted March 19, 2007 Report Share Posted March 19, 2007 I don't know about BPS reels, but on my Abu's there is a half moon clip on the spool end under the tension adjustment knob. Hope you didn't do anything to damage the reel, as I bent the worm gear on a johnny morris trying to figure out how to get it apart. It's kind of a pain to do. You have to crank the drag down as tight as you can. Then hold the reel body and push the handle inward until you feel it unseat from the teeth that keep it from unthreading. Then, while still holding it in, turn the handle backwards until it's off. Now, disassemble the reel as usual. Getting the handle back on is Oh, so fun, but doable if you have patience.
