psilvers
Does anyone ever pour jigs with kirbed (offset) hooks? If so, do you get a higher hook-up rate? Does the jig still run true? I was thinking of trying this, but I would have to modify my mold. Before I do so, I thought that I would find out if anyone else has had any experience with kirbed hooks in jigs or spinnerbaits. Thanks, Pete
Lotic Joe
I fish a lot of kirbed jigs, but they are poured on a normal hook. Just bend the point off to one side after the jig is poured &/or painted. IMHO, they definitely do help increase hookups!
psilvers
I guess one of my questions is whether the jig runs straight after you bend the hook. Thanks for your input, Pete
David Reid
I imagine it will tend to run off to the side a little bit because of the impedance in the water but is that important, the line will tend to pull it straight and keep it on line. If you look at the GY Split Shot hooks they are an offset shank hook which 9 times out of 10 will catch a fish in the hinge area or the side of the mouth. Certainly makes sense to me and I am sure it works. Make up both using the method LJ above suggests and validate it yourself before you alter your mold permanently. Lotic Joe
Can't really say that I've ever noticed it causing a tracking problem with any jigs, including simple ballheads used to swim a single tail grub.
