BBC
I just bought a swimbait mold from lurecraft and poured a few to test over the weekend. I used a 1/8 ounce round jig head and the bait wanted to spiral as I retrieved it. I was wondering if I just need to use a heavier jig head, different shaped jig head or if there is something else I'm doing wrong??? I used MF supersoft plastic and loaded it with salt to make it stiffer and to add weight. Below is a link to the mold I bought. Also, if I retrieved it very slowly (like pulling along side the boat) it was fine and had nice action. Delw
bbc that design was made to swim slowly, if you reel it in to fast you will get it to spin, Ive found this out with a lot of swimbait molds I have been working on lately. adding extra weight to the bottom will help but very very little to the point were you don't notice it for that bait I would put a small tube through the nose to about a 1/4 of the way on just sticking out the bottom. it will go at an angle between the tub and the head cut a slit in it and put in a weight. then string your line through the tube and tie a treble hook onto it ( bottom of the bait) this should give you more speed Delw
nova
You also have to make sure that you insert the jighook straight.(lined up with the center of the back of the bait). If your hook is slightly off-line it will make your bait "layover" or spin when you retreive it. www.novalures.com
BBC
I went to the lake last night after work to try a few things with the swimbait. It still isn't running right. I tried putting a tube through it like Del said and it didn't have enough weight to keep it under the surface so I put 1/8 oz of lead in the bottom of the swimbait (centered at the head of the bait). This gave it enough weight but it wanted to spin again. So, how much weight should I be using for this size swimbait? I currently put salt in the plastic and use 1/8 oz (jig head or lead inside bait). This is what I usually use for smaller, more aerodynamic swimbaits. Should I be using more weight or should I try to alter the design to get it to swim properly??? Thanks, Eric
HAWGHUNNA
Try this,I use them on the Mega Vibe that I just designed...works great.I just make a srew lock and attach it to the 90 degree bend of the hook.
