"Fishen a Broke Back Minnow"

Recommended Posts

remove both hooks put a treble on a good snapsviwel by adding a splitring attach snap on first hook eye

this setup is similar to a salmon setup on a J-plug &lets the tail swim more freely with erratic motion & the fish wont have any leverage to use since the sviwel will bend freely

the treble should reach just behing the tail

We mainly use 4 inch (approx. length) brokebacks for trolling for trout here in East Tennessee.

If shore fishing or casting from a boat I'd cast, let sit for 20 seconds, twitch, pause, twitch.....then start a slow retrieve just under the surface so the plug creates a hump commotion on the surface of the water, occasionally stopping and pausing. Fish reportedly will rise a goodly distance to hit a surface lure worked slowly.

The only color I currently own is black back, silver side, white underbelly Rapalas.

I Really Like The Looks Of A Jointed Minnow But I Don't Have As Much Sucess As With Em As I Do The One Piece Models. My Favorite Is The Sinking Countdown Model With A Slight Twitch (disorented) Action. I Can Keep Them Up Out Of The Weeds By Raising My Rod Tip. I Still Get Alot Of Action And Slow Retreive By Twitching It Like Crazy With Pauses. Don't Forget That Action Is Not Only Side To Side But Up And Down As Well !!! I Remember About 15 Years Ago When They Started Making Bomber Long 'a' S Jointed. A Bunch Of Guys Thought It Was Going To Make A Great Lure Even Better. After About A Year Most Of Us Went Back To The One Piece Model Because The Fish Liked Them More !! They Barely Float And We Had Thd The Most Sucess Using What We Called The Non Retreive Which Was Cranking It Soooo Sloww It Took 2 Minutes To Cover 30 Yards In A Good Strike Zone !!! Good Luck !!!! Experiment Alot And Us Know Your Secrets That Are Sucessful. (not The One That Are So Secret That The Fish Don't Understand Em !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ha, Ha, Ha,...............
