hazmail
Hi "Smirkplug"- Here is a few of what I have made, not necessarialy colours I used to sell, just some of the colours I have kept, that worked. Excuse the condition as they have all been used and my personal supply were allways made up out of rejects. At the rear is a 4" (great for "Barra") minnow and the rest are 2" which I have caught just about everything known to man around here. I am thinking of getting back into it, as these are about all I have left and it beats buying them. Have been reading up on new coatings/ sealers etc and these appear as though they would make construction more durable and time efficient. Allways had problems with the finish!! used to use auto clear-looks O.K , but not real durable , too brittle.
smirkplug
HEY THOSE ARE NICE !!! I LIKE THE STYLE, WHAT DO YOU CALL IT? I REALLY LIKE THAT OVAL OR TRIANGULAR SHAPE. THAT LIP AND ANGLE ARE NOTORIOUS FOR A GOOD TIGHT WOBBLE. CAN YOU RETREIVE THEM FAST ? LOOKS LIKE THEY RUN ABOUT 4-8 FEET DEEP. I'M GOING TO TRY TO COPY THAT SPLATTER TECHNIQUE ON THE GREEN/YELLOW ONE. ILL SEND PHOTOS THIS WEEK OF SOME OF MY STUFF. IM STILL FOOLING WITH FINISHES, RIGHT NOW IM USING 2 PART 50/50 FLEXCOAT TYPE RESIN WITH 2 THICK COATS, BUT MY PLUGS ARE FAT 4-1/2---7 INCHES. smirkplug
Hey , I Just Thought Of 2 Old Lures That Kind Remind Me Of Yours, One Is A Heddon 'headdhunter' The Other Is A Buck Perry 'spoonplug'. I Used To Fish Both Of Those Back In The 70,s For Bass, When I Was A Kid .
detroit1
"Spoonplugs"....i still have 4 of them. The basic shape is close to a spoonplug, but the hedhunter is a closer fit. I'm afraid to use my spoonplugs because of all the menacing pike that might steal it.
hazmail
Hi Guys Thanks for your intrest, and compliaments Pardon my ignorance but never heard of "Buck Perry", but maybe he copied mine ! ! As for Heddon, well they are quality lures , especially the old ones. We don't get many Heddon lures here, mainly because of the cost, they are not competitive with local stuff-still some wood around. I originally started with balsa wood blanks, these I had at the back of a boat, speed testing, to see when they would "pop out", they did'nt, we must have been doing 30 Mph. I then started using "King Billy pine" (King William Pine)- a local AUS wood- pine with a very fine grain and no knots, great to work with- never speed tested these though. Love Balsa though, easy to work and has a "good sound" to it, but durability was allways a problem, especially when you sell a few.
