braveviper
What im looking to do is make a one piece senko type mold using rtv silicone. If I pour the mixture in a vessel and then push down a senko and leave it there to cure will it float to the top?Do i have to glue the worm to the bottom and end up with a flat sided stick? dampeoples
Not sure which way you're talking about, horizontal or vertical, but you're gonna have a flat side if you make a one piece mold. The fact that it's a senko might keep it down, don't know how heavy it is compared to RTV. I mention vertical because Lurecraft has a mold that appears to be a vertical fulyl round senko, one at the time, although I've heard it's not very fun to demold the completed bait. BassSniperLures
Yeah, I know it can't be becuase I have their one piece tube mold and it ain't fun . But I also have one of their senko molds thats got a flat side. Its pretty good, it only has about a quarter of the bait flat. Sometime soon I hope to get one of Bob's or Del's senko molds though. My guess is if you put it in from the top would be the best way and push it down into the silicone. I don't know if it would form right around the bait if you left it on the bottom. One Sock
Yeah, Sometime soon I hope to get one of Bob's or Del's senko molds though.if your looking to buy a two piece senko mold and plan on making a bunch of baits, i would suggest waiting and getting at least two or three. That will allow you to pour 10-12 sticks at a time without reheating JMO
HAWGHUNNA
Braveviper, It is very simple to make a 2 pc. senko mold using R.T.V Silicone...why a one piece?
charkins
If you are going to make a single sided mold, you will need to glue the senko to the bottom or it may very well float up.
braveviper
Braveviper,It is very simple to make a 2 pc. senko mold using R.T.V Silicone...why a one piece? Its expensive and I dont want to experiment with it.I figured if i totaly bury the senko in rtv I could nip off an end when its dry making a senko shaped cavity.Do you make a 2 piece the same way as with plaster?Burry one half in rtv and let it cure and do it again for the other half? Travis
Take the plaster and use it to pour a thin layer in a pan. Bang the pan against the table and pop any bubbles with a straw and good old fashioned lung power. Place senkos unil half covered andl let the plaster set. Use this as your base and pour the first half of the RTV mold, add keys and pour spout before RTV. If the plaster holder doesn't look good make another it is cheap. No messing up this way. Just use the plaster to "set" the senkos. Once you get one good half of the RTV you can use it to hold the senko and make as many molds as needed. Although with the flooding of the market with senko handpours, aluminum molds are showing up a lot on ebay for cheap (along with beavers and buzz frogs). braveviper
I think i see now.Your plaster mold just holds one half of the worm to be burried by the rtv right? Let it cure and then do it again for the second half?
Travis
Yes I use the plaster mold to work as a holder and then pour the RTV. At this point you ditch the plaster and then use the RTV half and place the senko in it and spray with mold release and then pour the second half of the RTV mold. RTV two piece mold complete. Then you just use the RTV halfs as holders from that point if other RTV molds are to be made. The plaster is just used to make sure you get a good reference to start with. This just limits the screw ups with RTV. Wax can be used also or I have also just poured hot plastic into the pan then set the bait in place and allow to cool. You can use clay, etc.. also.
