jmik26
First thing you need to do is figure how fast you can make baits. Time is money! For example, pouring stick baits: pour 20 sticks = 1 hour 10 per pack @ $4.99 1 Hour of labor you just made $9.98 - supplies, taxes, and overhead. Is it worth it? pour 40 sticks = 1 hour 10 per pack @ $4.99 1 Hour of labor you just made $19.96 - supplies, taxes, and overhead. It is starting to sound good. Now I can get into the details.... You need to figure out cost of materials and how much of that material is it gonna cost to make a pack of sticks. Figure out all you ingredients and there cost. For example I will do just the plastic. I will leave the taxes, overhead, glitter, scent, salt, color, molds, supplies, etc... up to you. Helpful hint is learn how to use Microsoft Excel. 1 gallon of LC plastic $36.00 + 7.50 shipping. 32 Sticks = 1 cup of plastic 16 cups in 1 gallon, therefore 512 sticks out of 1 gallon. $43.50 for plastic to your door / 512 sticks = .084 per stick. .084 x 40 sticks = $3.36 Now your $19.98 - $3.36 per hour has dwindled down to $16.62 . I can tell you that there are many guys pouring for like $5-10 an hour. Hope this helps.....Jeff
nova
Jeff; I can tell you there are a lot of guys out there pouring them for less than $0.00. Just check ebay. www.novalures.com
jmik26
Your right, I had about 400 sticks laying around that I had bought before I started pouring. I have them up on ebay for 50 cents a pack and they don't even have a bid right now:( . Probably becuase someone undercut me.
nova
I didn't mean you; it was just a general statement. Sorry. www.novalures.com
jmik26
No offense taken. I hear what your saying though. I plugged some of the numbers in my spreadsheet for the prices on the internet, talk about killing the market for sticks . I have a handful of faithfull guys that buy our sticks and thats it. Couple more will buy from word of mouth but its a hard market! Thank God for Skirts.....
BassnRandy
It's aterrible market on ebay for sticks unless your doing something special and even then. Guys are selling sticks for $6-$8 a hundred. Plus I recently saw some guy from California saying not to buy handpours because handpourers are novices at bait making or something to that effect. It just doesn't help our cause. Other than the Craw Hawg I have pushed myself back to more traditional flat sided handpours and business is still growing for me. I have sold about 150 sticks in 3 months and about 500 gobies. I think the market is just plain flooded on the sticks.
