mnflyfisher
I was just wondering what some of the different things are that people use to put over their treble hooks on their lures when not in use and where they get them. A lot of it looks like surgical tubing type of stuff...
u63405
I use hook bonnets. StoneCoal Tackle
I get mine from one of these guys, go to eBay and search by seller, search sgcool or whitelaketrader. Both about the same price, both have good products and both are great guys. I've dealt with both and am always satisfied. Hope this helps. Palmetto Balsa
Hobby Lobby sells a hollow plastic tubbing that is used to make children's beaded necklaces. It comes in about a 50 foot roll and works perfect on treble hook sizes 2-8. Sells for about $2-$3 per pack. Get the clear because I think the color of the others might bleed. The product quality isn't perfect and some inside diameters are a little larger or smaller that others but it still works fine. One roll will cover 500+ treble hooks. Find it in the kids craft section, rolls are carded and on a peg.
cheesehead
I tried using hook bonnets and gave up on them. In my opinion they contribute to causing your hooks to rust by holding in moisture. Also I've nicked myself a few times trying to remove the bonnets

castmaster
You wont be disappointed ordering from sgcool on ebay. Very good guy to deal with and good quality tubing. He has several sizes and the price gets better the more you buy.
u63405
I've used the tubing before and found it difficult to remove and seemed more prone to injury than the hook bonnets.
oldthunder
Recieved my hook tubing today from Doug Cool. This stuff is awesome. For the price you can't beat it. It is excellent for protection from the hooks especially when shipping lures to customers. If any of you guys are looking for hook tubing, I highly reccommend Doug.... smirkplug
An Old Guy I Know Used The Grey Rubber From Window Screens On Large Hooks 2/0 -- 6/0... But You Haven't Known Pain Until You Have Run A 6/0 4x Vmc All The Way Through Two Fingers Then Pulled Them Back Out With A Pair Of Rusty Pliers... Its A Little Like Having A 15 Pound Striper Slip Out Of Your Grasp Then Hook Your Other Hand Then Flop Around Like Crazy For A While... I Think Ill Go Back To Tubing. Sometimes The Learning Curve Can Be Painful. In Santa Barbara Ca. Theres A Tatoo/ Piercing Parlor Next Door To The Tackle Shop And Ive Offered To Supply Hooks To Some Of The Folks Who Want To Look Tough. So Far No Takers, I Also Point Out The Numeriously Pierced Guys To Young Fishermen And Say ' See Kids Thats Why You Don't Run With A Tackle Box'..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jrhopkins
here's a picture, when removing from the hook use a twisting motion to keep it from snagging on the barb
