bassgreg
I was going to do a resin mold this weekend, do I really need to super glue the bait to the bottom of my pyrex? What do you use to remove the old baits from the pyrex? Thanks, Bassgreg
Coley
I wouldn't worry to much about the old bait. A little acetone will remove the superglue. I would imagine the bait could float up and let resin get under it, if not glued. Coley
SeminoleFan
Coley is right. If you dont super glue them down your masters could get moved or pushed into each other or float up and let the resin seep under it. If you use a glass pyrex baking sheet, just use a razor to scrap the old baits and superglue off the sheet. Thats what I do. Rick
SeminoleFan
Also, If you let the resin seep under the bait, the mold will not be straight and level. And if your making centepieds (sp) they wont be straight or uniform. Trust me I know on that one. Rick
SeminoleFan
You could also create just one master mold, Then pour several baits into the single cavaty, then with the new plastics make a bigger mold. I have also done this and It seems to work out ok for me. Any more questions feel free to ask ! Rick
Mercury
Thats exactly why you want to use super glue your models, they will float to the top or move on you as you are pouring the medium. Now some people will use vasaline or somthing close to it instead of a glue.
chirmy
Just lick them and stick them thats all I do. wash your samples in dawn and water to get all residue, salt etc. off the bait. Also wash your dish in the dishwaher and let dry, dont use a towel. Works 9 out of 10 times. When cured pull your worm out and take a spoon, screw driver, upside down razor blade or anything else that you can run clong the edges and smooth out the top sides. kidlizard
Hey Bassgreg, If you are worried about the super glue, you can try double sided tape. I use it for all my plaster and resin molds and it works great. I use scotch brand that looks just like regular scotch tape. Good Luck! bassgreg
Thanks for the tips, I tried both the vasaline and super glue. I prefer the vasaline much better, the super glue did not let the resin set up around the edges and was a pain to clean up. With both methods I did have to do a little clean up on the edges with my Dremel. I did try one mold by pouring the resin into my pyrex pan, then gently placing my baits upside down into resin. This worked really good, it gave me a good sharp edge that I could scrape the overpours off with. You just have to make sure your bait doesn't sink to far in.
