Maze
Anyone have any experience with this type of reel ? It's been suggested for a rod I am building to float fish for Steelhead, Salmon and big Brown Trout on the Niagara River here in NY. Looking to find a budget priced one since I'm not sure how much of this type of fishing I'll do. Thanks in advance ! Maze
Glaucus
Hey Maze, here's a link with lots of float reels http://www.hooklineandsinker.ca/Retail%20Pages/retailheader.htm My brother is totally into centerpin reels, (he owns an Anspec), he recommends Islander reels as a budget/starter reel. Alvey (Australia) make an inexpensive centerpin, the least expensive ones are from China & Russia BTW, the boys on the Niagara are beginning to use the westcoast style outfits, ie. baitcasters. IMHO centerpin reels are overpriced and limited to trotting floats. A baitcaster with a flipping switch does the same job, and can be use for other applications. Big Splash
Out West on the steelhead streams the Abu reels are king. You can get them in all price ranges. Check out ebay - I picked up an abu 550 for $20.00 a few weeks ago.
