Another Resin Mold question

Recommended Posts

I haven't done this and I am by no means an expert... So work with me on this:

Coudn't you take a worm that you would want to mold and cut it in half length-wise with an exacto knife. Then, super glue one half of the worm, flat (cut) side down in a pyrex pan (as suggested in other one piece mold tutorials). Pour in the resin and cover the half worm completely with resin. Now allow the resin to set. Once set, pop resin mold out of the shell and flip it over. Now take another uncut worm of the same size/shape and put it in mold created by the half worm. Cover the second worm and the 1st part of the mold completely with some sort of release agent. Now pour in enough resin to completly cover the uncut worm. Allow to set. You should now have a two part mold.

Of course you would have to add something to help keep the two molds lined up. You would also have to add something to the edge of the mold to act as a funnel. Also, this probably would only work with worms that did not have small appendages or thin tails...

Let me know what you guys think...

Gentlemen,

When I first started, I tried over and over to do a 2 part poly resin mold. After my last try i threw the mold in disgust. this particular mold was of a Senko. The senko like al my other attempts was totally cured in the resin. The mold broke in half upon impact and I was able to pull out the senko. I am now able to pour 1 senko at a time in whatever color I want. I have never tried to do a 2 part resin mold again. The 2 halves always seem to cure together no matter what I used or how long I left the first half cure.

After what Chirmy says. it seems the problem is keeping

the two halves from sticking together when you pour the

second half. What if you took a piece of clear film like that

stretch stuff used in the kitchen and placed it over the

first half of the mold, then put in your whole worm, and

poured the second half. Make the mold with the worm

close to the edge and use a Dremel to cut the pour hole.

Before separating the two halves. drill holes for alignment

pins. I would take the first half completely out of the container

and wrap the film completely around it so no resin could

run down the sides and stick the two halves together.

Just my thoughts.
