One Sock
Ok some will answer and some won't,,,,,, some will lie and some won't. But here is what i want to know. How much does it cost per bait to make. Now consider these in your answers, but let's start easy. Your pouring 5 gallons in one color, black with blue flake in 5 inch stick baits, salted. Include who you get your stuff from(if you want), don't include price of molds.. Products(including shipping) Plastic, salt, color and flake, scent, softner, hardner Bags, labels, ink or cost to have labels made, any other items I have overlooked Include how many 5 inch sticks you can get out of 5 gallons, what method you use, pot's? Injection? pyrex from the microwave? If you want, considering it's a basic color your black and blue mix
jmik26
Good lord! You sound like the IRS... LOL My math gives me 5 gallons = 1280 Sticks Hand Poured Cost will depend on how much you want to pay yourself.
dampeoples
Cost will depend on how much you want to pay yourself. That is the question most folks should be asking, especially with the sticks! I think it was you who mentioned that you were trying to sell some old sticks you bought on eBay back on eBay, and couldn't peddle them for $0.50/bag!! jmik26
Yeah they ended up selling for not much more then that. Those were the sticks that I bought from alluring baits and since I was pouring my own now I never got around to using them. I did end up getting enough to buy a mold so it was worth it to me. If you want, considering it's a basic color your black and blue mix I have poured 5" swim bait style baits so far i poured about 100 on 1/2 gallon of plastic. my total cost for 5 gal, various dyes and glitter, nuker, cups, PoP, is about 275. baits in the store vary from $1-1.50. -steve

Sinko Baits
I use pouring pots and have 10, 5" stick molds... It goes FAST. My wife does the cutting and bagging, too.
dampeoples
You forgot the time to draw the plastic, pour ingredients, mix them up, keep mixing them up, your wife's time, etc, etc. IMO, selling sticks is a losing battle, given the prices I see floating around. I've never bought anyone's hand poured sticks, but have some buddies bragging about the price of the baits they got off eBay that didn't even sink. On the other hand, there is a group of anglers that know what consttutes a good bait, and will pay the price, find those guys, screw the cheap bastards that want to pay bottom dollar, there will always be some moron out there to sell it to them for 'free', just to make a sale. rockylinx
one sock I know what your going through, I myself an wondering if all this is worth it?? What I mean is there is thousands of baits out there, not only that, now you made friends that pour there own bait. Its even easer to have one of these gentlemen to customize whatever you want. After hours of wondering if i should do it i came to the conclusion yes this is why it makes sense to me 1 I cant walk into a fishing store without thinking wow I like this tail ,but if I put it on that body and use the legs of that other bait that I found next to the hooks that would be an awesome bait and I can make up a name for it 2 catching the poor fish that ate your hybrid bait that you Frankensteined together 3 Its a creative thing to let your inner child play with clay paster And other fun stuff After reviewing all the pros it was enough for me to say yes. I would have never done it just because its cheaper (but it is) If the above doesn't interest you find someone to do it for you ( this is not for you) but if you share the same feelings get rid of your wife and buy some plastic supplies (wife optional if shes OK WITH CUTTING AND BAGGING) Pete
Predator Bass Baits
I missed that $28 stirrer my Bad, what are you using that cost $28 ?
One Sock
one sockI know what your going through, I myself an wondering if all this is worth it?? Oh don't get me wrong, it's not about if it's worth it, i discovered a long time ago it's worth it. I was just interested to see the different results. How much some people pay for this or that, if it was 12 cent s stick, 18 cents a stick because someone uses "King Midas salt" or "glitters glittery flake" Much like bass fishing I don't think you can ever "learn it all" when it comes to pouring baits. while I haven't gotten much info back in regards to what I was asking, i did get information none the less and I want to thanks those that PM'd me with the info. since I have been on here, I have learned a lot especially when it comes to buying supplies, adding this, adding that to make this or that, I've also learned some things not to do, found cool links to cool sites, seen some amazing baits and hell even had some business sent my way because of the images I post occasionaly. I'm starting to get to the point where all i want to do is custom baits, yeah they take a while to do and I will never get rich doing it, There is such a personal satisfaction when someone sends you a picture of an 8 or 10 lbs bass saying "Hey, these baits are awesome"
Sinko Baits
YES... That time to pour did not include prep time. As for my stirrer, it WORKS great. I use an old router with a paint mixer blade and mounted it to a stand on top of my pouring pots. I also use a router speed control to keep it slow mixing. That is where the $28 comes from. I had the router but the speed control costs $28. Every now and then I have to use a wooden spoon a swipe the sides of the pot tho just to insure all the salt and flakes are not clinging to the sides. It works for me. It goes fast and I can control the heat to a very close 300 degrees.
dampeoples
I was gonna guess he was using a cheap drill press to stir, but I was wrong In addition to prep time, you now have your wife's time to consider too, while cutting and bagging. Then I forgot set up and take down time, if you don't already have an area set up just for pouring, then add in 'material time', or the time it takes to order, receive, and put away materials, etc. Lots and lots to add into the time factor, and it's all completely necessary, as is thick skin.
