BryBear
I have been trying to find the best want to fuse the skirts on an Ika type bait? I tried the worm glue that did not wok. Using a hot knive is the best I have found so far but takes alot of time. Anyone else found a better way?
jmik26
The best way we found to attach skirts are with a soldering iron.
Delw
You can also heat up some plastic and hold the edge of the ika or skirt in in then press the 2 together
BryBear
Where did you get the paddle end for the soldering iron? I have looked all over and cant find it. What the heck is it called?
jmik26
That is a tip that I made custom for this. It is a 50 watt soldering iron and works out well for this. I had a 45 watt and it didn't get hot enough. If you get a long enough tip you could probably screw a flat piece of stainless on to it and it would work. Delw
take a 3/4 inch piece of copper tubbing, cut it about 1 -2" long then cut a slit down one side with a bandsaw or dremel tool flatten it out with a hammer. then braze it or silver solder it to the tip of the soldering gun. when brazing it cut a small slot with a bandsaw down the center of the tip. then shove the piece of flattened tubbing down there. silver solder wont melt at low soldering iron temps, you will have to use a flame to put on the silver solder
jmik26
Yep, that would work. It might even work better then what I have. Stainless conducts heat but, I imagine that copper would conduct better.
