David Reid
Ultrabite was developed by CEFAS (the Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Agricultural Science) in the UK which is a UK Govt research centre. It is based on pheromones and is such is an artificial pheromone product. We use it here but I have never used it myself. Some people swear by it and others dont. I think it comes down to: 1) how good the pheromones are and how closely they resemble the natural product. eg Artificial vanilla (vanillin) dosnt taste the same as natural vanilla no matter how much they push the product and get people to believe its virtually the same. 2) the species of fish you are targeting. For individual pheromones to work they need to target the specific fish they are aimed at. If using the product make sure you use the one most suitable for your fish. Dont just trust the retailer (they know stuff all and their interest is profit afterall) but contact the US Distributor of the product and get the appropriate info. I believe it is someone like Mustad. Take everything you are told with pinch of salt and give us your feedback.
