which soft plastic to buy...?

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

i'm looking to buy 5 gal of soft plastic to make swimbait like javallon.

'till now i was pouring with calhoun Formerly CPC 2101 ( is Calhoun 1207 the same formula?).

as i'm pouring in mold with thin part i need to heat plastic pretty well and i've found that calhoun is turning brown, but i like the consistence of the bait with this plastic.

so, to your advice is MF or LC formula would be better to pour swimbait like javallon? are these plastic as soft as the CPC 2101 from calhoun?

i've also read that LC smoke very little and does not burn but it does separate bad .

i know there is a thread about best plastic , but it's pretty old now,

thanks for helping.

I just received a pint bottle from LC as a sample recently. No seperation on it at all, not sure if the same would be true with a 5 gallon bucket. I believe it was their supersoft. I like it a lot

MF- great plastic, no seperation whatsoever even in the 5 gallon, smell isn't bad at all and it makes great baits.

Would be interesting to mix the MF and the LC in equal parts and see what i get....damn, time for 10 more gallons :-)

We use LC 536 and it works out great. It does seperate but can be mixed with a paint mixer and drill in the 5 gallon pals. Once its mixed well, we put it into 1 gallon jugs and just shake those by hand. The two pints I had as samples from MF were great plastic with no seperation. However, LC is only one state away so I save on shipping compared to MF so thats why I get it from there.

Like M-F and LC. LC improved their formula so that mixing is much easier.

No bubbles or foaming for either brand and the service from both is great.

Plastic hardness per grade is comparable and I do mix regular with super soft to get a more durable bait. As long as the temp is 300 or less, I get no color change in clear, the ultimate test of heat resistance.
