nyfisherman
i poured some basic 4" sticks and buzz frogs. they came out very well! some questions i have are: i got the gluegun from LC what plastic do you guys recomend using for the molds? i tried some 502 but they were too soft to use. what do you guys use to stir? i am using a presto cook pot with a spout. i was stirring with wood chop sticks and it didnt work that great and got a big varience form one bait to the next with the flake. MDC
Not sure about the gluegun, but i would use an old butterknife or something similar to stir. Using wood can cause bubbles in your plastic
maximusgunn
I use a long handled Whisk "egg beater" put the handle between your hands and rub them back and forth.
Smallie
I use old butter knives in my Pyrex cups - buy them at yard sales, flea markets etc real cheap. I don't have a Presto pot but aren't they coated with teflon or some kind of non-stick coating? I used to have a fry pan like that and you were supposed to use non-metallic utensils. Maybe using a molded "plastic" spoon would work and not add bubbles. They sell those at Walmart or Dollar storess for a buck.
One Sock
for a first pour, they are about 90% better than most. Hell, I still have the first bag of sticks I poured. Never used them, don't know why I saved them. but I did. My first color was black w/blue flake. I was hooked...pun intended, I use a spatula in the pot. gluegun? never used one so i can't comment, aluminum molds are by far the best IMO, and seeing as you just started, I can tell you of some questions/comments you might get thrown at ya if your married That stuff smells take it outside Do you really expect me to put something to heat up in that microwave now? Honey, why are there charges for 468.00 for a Bobstackleshack? How'd you burn your hand like that? Stop leaving your f%^&*$& worms all over the house Honey, where's my measuring cups? You got another package today Honey, did you order 75 lbs of salt? nyfisherman
one sock i was smart enough to do it outside and not even try it inside! as for your list i have already been yelled at by my wife for numbers 3,5,6,7 and 9. i managed to get red glitter on my inner leg and i really had to explain myself:huh: for a first pour, they are about 90% better than most. kendo
Those are a lot nicer than my first pours! And how is your pot working out for you? I was thinking about getting one but I dont know if I pour enough to use it often. Keep up the good work on those baits. About the pot I know nothing about it and the plastic gun ..nothing sorry. Lucky I'm not married.
nyfisherman
kendo the pot is nice but you have to pour a bit more than you would have to with a pyrex. my wife wont let it in the house so the pot is my only option. thanks for the kind comments i am going to try to pour more tonight! plt
I have purchased one from LC with the special mold for making round sticks to insert in the back of the hot glue gun.But after trying for sevral weeks the plastic never got hot enough to flow smoothly forstripes or even dots I was not very impressed, but maybe I didnt have the hang of it. ragfly
I use the pot on pours of two cups or more. then any of the small amount I have left goes to a small pan on a hotplate. As for butter knives Walmart 3 for $1. I use a wooden spatula in my pot so I don't scratch the teflon. Why does wood cause air bubbles? I do see air bubbles in the clearer colors but I like them because I think it helps refract the light giving thebait more atraction, anyways the fish don't seem to mind.... saint308
Wood holds moisture from humidity and such. This moisture is then realeased once put in plastic causing bubbles. Saint.
Theflyingplatypus
It also holds air causing bubbles. And moisture in your baits can mess up the color. What mold do you use for the frogs?
ragfly
Thanks for your replies..... so what can I use for stirring, I don't want to scratch the teflon liner...
jmik26
Look at Menards, Home Depot, Lowe's, or a Hobby Shop for some 1/4" aluminum rod. I would think the aluminum rod would be soft enough not to scratch the pot. We use 1/4" stainless rods which works great for Pyrex dishes. Before we start I stick it in the drill and hold some steel wool to it with the drill on high, cleans it right up.
