Haulin'Bass
Does anyone one know how to use glitter with powder paint. I tried to add glitter to my powder paint and dip my jigs but it never comes out right. Then I tried to sprinkle it on before the jig cooled and after I powder paint. Wondered if anyone knew of an easier way to add glitter and use with powder paint.
jigfisherman
I have added it to my paint and it works pretty good, but you have to add alot to get it to do right. I have also bought fine glitter at Hobby Lobby and added it to a bottle of clear powder paint to dip my jigs in after I dip them in my paint and works well that way. dampeoples
I would think that the key would be a smaller glitter, one that would suspend well if in a fluid bed, and not settle to the botto quickly if dipped.
Haulin'Bass
I will try that. Thanks,Jeff
redsnooktrout
I add 2% to 6% of flake........ 6% is a bit on the high side
LedHed
Haulin'Bass Make sure the glitter you are using can take the high temp. You can buy PP pre mixed with glitter. Columbia Coatings has a great holograph glitter.
rsinyard
I will second LedHed's advice if we are talking about the same columbia coatings in columbia TN. I bought some from them and it works great. I use the Lapis to give my jigs a blue shimmer.

cadman
Haulin'Bass, I have had very good success with Herbie's Magic Dust. Their powder glitter is very fine, and covers well. www.herbiesmagicdust.com
buckslayer
TJ's Tackle http://www.tjstackle.com (under powder paint) has Pro-tec Glitter paint, which is pre-mixed, as well as just the MetalFlake Glitter that you can mix with the clear for your desired ratio. There are 10 or 12 different colors. I think the best way to do it is buy the clear powder paint and glitter separately and keep adding glitter until you get the desired look. Use this mixture as a top coat and make sure you shake it up really well. If you are using the candy colors I have had good luck with mixing the glitter directly with the paint, but if you use anything other than candy colors it doesn't mix well. The paint will absorb the glitter and you lose the affect. If you use it as a top coat it won't. The clear also gives a nice glossy finish. reeves
I totally agree with Buckslayer says about mixing it yourself to achieve the effect you desire. I purchased a pound of the pre-mixed from CSI a while back and what a disappointment. They put so much glitter in the clear, it is so heavy that the stuff won't even fluidize in my fluid bed. Can barely raise an air bubble. I reduce it with clear powder to achieve the effect I want. Someone mentioned in an earlier post that CSI was bought out and had noticed that the quality was slipping. I would like to echo that. Whoever bought it fired the guy who was watching the store. Too bad, cause it is a great product. I am currently ready to purchase elsewhere.
