borderbasser
I am fixing to order some oomoo 25 RTV to make some molds and was wondering if I need some kind of release agent to put over the master and or in the mold box cavity. If so, do I need to order something from Smooth-On, or is there something available localy that I can use like at Wallyworld of Home Depot. If it matters, some of the masters will be sealed wood and some will be soft plastic. Thanks guys. TJ
BBC
I've never used a release agent and have never had a problem. I typically use soft plastic lures as masters and cut up a cereal box for the mold box (pour the RTV against the shiny side of the cardboard). Smallie
The only time you need mold release is if you are making two part molds. The RTV really sticks to itself and without a release agent, you will never separate the halves. That being said, a light coat of mold release can add shine to the plastic and in turn the mold if you heat the master up a little after applying the mold release. I use Manns Ease Release 800. borderbasser
Thanks Smallie. That is some great info on heating the master after applying the release. Can you elaborate on your process a little more? How much and how long do you heat it. How long after you apply the mold release? Sorry for bugging you with this but I am completely new to RTV and would like to get the best finished product possible. Thanks

Smallie
I just put it under a drop light with a 100 watt light bulb for 10 minutes or so. The heat makes the mold release melt and smooth out on the surface of the master. It also makes the surface shiny. I put the drop light about 8 inches from the master.
