rockylinx
Ok for the last two months Ive been working on my swim bait. I designed it out of balsa used bondo to fill in the blanks. I sprayed it with lacquer several times and its perfect I'm lost with the last step, I know if I cast it in Pop I wont be able to remove the hard original without breaking it !!!! I would like to make several molds out of pop.I was thinking of making the pop molds from extra hard plastic made from the original Im lost as how to make a mold from the original so i can pour the extra hard plastic I'm thinking my only solution is making an RTV mold thats just extra expense for a lower quality detail material. Silicone ? but I don't know if i should even pour hot plastic into silicone oh just had an idea make a 2 piece mold from the original and pour it in a way that can be easily removed WHAT WOULD YOU DO Please Help Pete

rockylinx
Patrick, Do you think that would mess up the fine finish i have on the bait? Willy, In our area swimbait is the way to go Ive caught every fish imaginable on it. I went to town and bought several swim baits and I tried to better the basic swim bait by combining all the specific features of each bait into one. In the process I came up with 3 individual styles of swim bait that would fit my needs (basic, eel grass, and Kelp) This is the first draft I don't even know if it will swim but im excited Ill keep you posted with details and pictures Pm me your address and Ill send you my first batch Pete
Mattlures
DO NOT PUT RELEASE ON YOUR MASTER!!!! unless its a car wax that you can polish. NO YOU CANT POURP POP AROUND IT!!!! you will ruin your master and you wont get a mold anyways. Go to smooth-on.com order a sample kit of oomo silicon.(its cheap) pour a mold that has stable sides(wood box). Now you can pour regular plastisol into your mold and reproduce your master. Each bait being soft plastic can be used to make your pop molds.
borderbasser
Matt, So you are saying NOT to spray any kind of mold release on the hard original master? I just purchased some oomoo and some Smooth-on mold release to do the very same thing. I was under the impression that spraying some of the mold release on the master may make for a little shinnier cavity even though it may not be needed as a mold release. Did I understand correctly? Thanks. TJ
Mattlures
it will make your cavity dull. If your master is glossy than you do not want any release. And never use a hard mold material with a hard master unless there are absolutly no undercuts. Even then you should use a flexible mold material. If your master is soft, use either. Vodkaman
Has anyone used fibreglass resin for making moulds? Does it work?
jigmeister
Yes fiberglass resin will work for soft masters only ! It shrinks slightly when curing so if its not soft your master will either be locked it or even crack the mold .
Predator Bass Baits
I use this. http://www.plaster.com/Ultracal.html After I make my first mold I pour this in the mold and it makes a master that you can make more molds from..
