Jigsbydirk
I was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks to pouring into small molds. I am trying to pour 1 1/2 & 1 1/4 panfish grubs that have the little "legs" on them and have a hard time controlling the plastic coming out of the cup. Thanks for any help. jigmeister
Using a bottom pour heated pot would give you a finer degree of control . The starts and stops are usually the hardest to control the plastic flow when hand pouring . Something I did for pouring small 2" reapers was to make my own mold with all the bait cavities connected by a small channel so you poured right thru a whole string of baits without stopping . This eliminated multiple start /stops and allowed to plastic to even itself out by flowing between cavities if you were a little heavy in one area . I could pull the baits out of the mold like link sausages and trim off the channels once cool . I suppose you could set up the baits in a mold where the small legs are touching the bait in the next cavity so the plastic could flow and even out also . Hope this helps -jigmeister
Delw
To pour fine lines all you need is a 1 cup-1/2 cup measuring cup or a small pouring pan. The key to pouring small and flow control is to only fill it 1/4 - 1/8 full any more and the plastic will run down the side of the pan. You need to turn a pan almost
Jigsbydirk
Thanks for the tips. I had noticed that as I poured and the plastic was used up it got easier to do the small stuff.
Jigsbydirk
Last night I poured and made sure to only have a little bit of plastic in the cup and it worked much better. Thanks again for the tips.
nova
Also if you hold the pouring pot a little higher the stream will thin out at a certain point in it's fall and then get fatter again. Try pouring some out at different heights and take notice where this thinning occurs. After some practice you will automatically know what height to hold the pot. Lower and slower for bodies and higher and faster for thin parts. The speed is the movement of the pot as you pour. If you don't understand my instructions, just ask. www.novalures.com
bojon
I always lightly spray the the pouring cup inside, and the pouring lip on the outside, then wipe it gently with a cloth.Seems to work better and makes it easy to keep clean.A small amount of plastic poured from a little highth will do the trick.
