cutthroat
What is that black material on alot of the new rod handles that replaces cork? I have seen it on Arrius rods and I think a few other high end rods.Where do you get it?
dampeoples
The Airrus rod material is Thermalon (Ultra-XL) or Hypalon (the rest), no clue where to get it, though. I can tell you Skeet is building me a rod, and it's taken him a long time to get some, not sure if he ever did, maybe he can help.
CrazyFish
I use a woven graphite sometimes on a few spinning rods. It is very light and sensitive and looks great. Perhaps this is the material you are referring.

Angler's Workshop, Mudhole, etc... I buy 12' lengths of black in raw form and shape to my needed shapes. You can also buy preshaped grips as well.
