anderson_dc
Have any of you ever made this jig before? I have yet to see a mold that is specifically designed for it. Attached is a link that shows the product. http://www.northlandtackle.com/Category/main.taf?cat=
cadman
As far as I recall, a lot of Northlands jigs, along with some of there hooks, are custom made for them. I will tell you one thing thogh, for a company that heavily markets their jigs, I personally believe that they have some of the best quality, that I've seen. I will also say that many of the custom jig makers here on TU have a more durable jig with an excellent paint job. You just can't beat custom made jigs, no matter what anybody tells you. Just my thoughts.
BigTimeBuzzer
I don't think it would be any trouble coming up with a head/mold that is the same or very close to that style head. The problem will come with the hook. I think that a head can be made (very) similar to this with a little custom work, on both the mold and the hook. That's just me two cents.... jigmaster
The kink in the hook is only a baitkeeper, yes? I have actually made these before, although with a straight shank hook....I used the egghead mold from do-it, and picked up some propellors from barlows or one of them places....the jigs caught walleye like crazy for a customer of mine in canada last summer
BigTimeBuzzer
I figured the kink in the hook helped with keeping the bead and blade in place. It would also serve the purpose of keeping the tubing from sliding. I don't see them being to hard to make myself, but I have been doing this sorta thing for over 20 years now, so not alot surprises me anymore.. anderson_dc
Ive decided that it would be way too much work to try and put a kink in the hooks like Northland has custom done for them. The tubing is there to help keep the bead and blade in place. There isnt any adhesive on the tubing and will slide with some pressure put on it. What is going to be the solution to keeping the bead and blade in place for a straight hook and not one with a bend? That is the last step im having trouble with right now. Thoughts? smalljaw
What about a piece of shrink tubing placed just below the bead? You could split a small piece of it and slide it over the hook just below the bead then heat it slightly and it should keep everything in place. Just a thought.
