One Sock
Had a customer send me a brush hog from zoom. He wanted a close match to the color "pumpkinseed with red and black flake" ( Not a color I would normally make, so I started from scratch. This was my first attempt) He wants 300 of the slithers I make...so i wanted your opnion. Do you think the slithers are a close enough match to the brush hog color? If you ordered them would you be happy with the results? Be honest, I can take criticism
Travis
Looks very good and for the most part appears to be dead on. I think it is a little off however but many guys would be fine with it but I have had a few that wouldn't take it because it isn't exactly like it. Matching baits is always tricky. Your slither matches great about 1/2 way down. It is slightly too dark in the thicker portions when compared to the brush hog. I think if you cut back a couple drops of color then the thicker portions of the slither would match the bulkiest part of the brush hog and the thinner mid section would match thinner brush hog parts. Overall I would be happy with it but maybe one batch with a drop or two fewer would dial it in.
wannabefishing
matching different baits is a pita and is sometimes not possible... some baits are so bulky that the thickness of them makes them darker, lighten it up a bit and the thinner part is too light then... i've had customers like that and explaining it to them is not easy... they expect the WHOLE bait should be the same colour... myself, with those colours, not sure... don't know what zooms pumpkin seed is supposed to look like, but it is a bit off between the 2... will it work?yes... will it keep a customer happy? not sure, depends on the customer... would i be happy with it? yes... One Sock
I did go back with less color and came back with a lighter color in the bulkier part and even lighter in the thinner parts. I sent this(posted pic) to the customer and he told me it was beyond his expectations, That may just be the easiest way to do it, send the customer a sample or a picture before going hog wild on a bigger order.. thanks guys

Now hopefully he orders them after you worked hard to match it. I've had people ask for custom triple pours. Then I order the colorants if I don't have them, make a few bags, then send them a picture. Then they want it to be slightly different so I make a few more bags, then send them a picture again. They say they like it and are ready to order......and boom never hear from them again!
saint308
I always pour what I think is close and mail them a sample. I only pour 2 ounces to make samples. Once I get the ok, I then start pumping them out. I thought they looked very good by the way. Saint.

In that case I need some purple and gold sticks with green and blue hi-lite and orange and chartreuse flake;) J/K But seriously, my camera is capable of very good images, unless it's a really big order, I think I'll stick to sending an image, if they like it, i'll pour the order..but like you... I did get burned on a 100 count of mustard seed sticks, however they wound up producing some nice fish:yes:
Willy
They look good One Sock. Your pours really impress. Plus the bait they sent is more of a matte finish, and yours are soooo shiny. That can make colors appear to be dofferent. I have no idea how you get your bait so shiny but it really turns me on. Willy
One Sock
snip>I have no idea how you get your bait so shiny....... Willy I just use alluminum molds for all my baits, I don't do anything special. The only thing I can think of is I use canola oil to clean my molds, I do it quite often also so as not to leave any residue in the molds Here are the baby bass laminates that I was using on vacation, for those of you that make laminates and fish, these were really producing well
Richard Prager
It looks great to me. Most of us are perfectionsists to the extreme. Almost all of my special requests are for color combinations and not matching certain brand baits(and I'm thankful of that). One thing I find that works best for me is that ALL orders are paid for before I pour them. I've never had a customer ask for samples first. Most don't want to waste time. They want their baits and they want them now!
One Sock
Oh don't get me wrong, you pay first then I pour. I get quite a few custom requests and always want the customer happy before they get the order. I don't do the whole sample thing unless it's a custom request and even then it has to be a significant order. I'm very confident in my standard colors and never send samples on regular colors
