the_hide
Gents anyone got a recommendation for a syringe or injector that I could buy online or at least order mail order for two piece fine curl tails. Using a syringe seems to work well but I can't for the life of me find a good quality injector/syringe that will withstand a good heat plastisol here in Australia. My so called thermal resistant 200+ celcius plastic job burst last night, fortunately I was wearing eye goggles, gloves, ventilator and cap. Hot plastisol everywhere. from what I have read metal syringes seem the go or the net craft injector but I was curious to if they absorb heat from your plastic, clog up etc. Any advice on the topic would be appreciated. Mercury
Well this has been done before, http://tackleunderground.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=85 I have a thick glass B-D Yale 20cc syringe thats doing nothing but taking up space. I used the plastic syringe and recomend them only if you are a serious pain lover. I had bad 2nd degree burns on my palm and middle/ring finger and dont even mess with them anymore. If you want a good glass one with a large barrell I have one.
the_hide
Mercurly - I assume the glass syringe is safe for use with the hot plastisol ?
Mercury
Yes, it stands bakeing for when they steralize it, and has a fairly large barell too. I bought it because it did not have a needle or any metal parts. If you are interested I can get you a pic. It has a cert with it made in 1944. No cracks or chips. the_hide
Thanks for the offer Merc but being in australia makes the shipping horribly high, often much more than the prodct costs. I just purchased the netcraft injector when I was buying up a whole bunch of other supplies shipping seems to have a minimum flag fall of around 30 od us dollars upto about the 2 lbs mark so I just load up to that amount. For the record Im actually very impressed with the netcraft plastic injector with a little practice is doesnt get clogged, holds heat well and is a fairly conveniant shape etc. I was very impressed with their service. gordon gaudlitz
You ought to give Greg Garst, of Garst Lure Design a call. I know he has made a hand injector with a stainless steel barrel, it may take awhile, but I hear he does good work. You can run a search on Garst Lure Design to get the number he's a real good to deal with. gordon
Delw
I had one of those netcraft syringe's bust on me, #1 is was my own stupid fault, I was not wearing glass's or glooves and I was holding the mold together. if the thing didnt melt I might have been ok but I am sure even if it didnt I would have been burned like I was.... Can you say no fishing for a few weeks. Talk to one of your local vets, they might have a stainless steel one around and you can also wrap heater tape around it to keep it warm. the_hide
Thanks for the advice guys I've been away for a few weeks with work , (no net access). The injector so far has done the trick, interestingly enough I was having some problems with my plaster molds , in that the air wasnt really escaping well enough , even with plenty of quality air vents and I had alot of small bubbles trapped against the plaster. When the netcraft stuff shipped there was no instructions so the fellows at netcraft sent me one by mail. I'd been injecting the bait from the wrong end it seems. Netcraft recommend injecting up from the tail of the bait, through the smallest hole so the plastisol runs over the top. Instantly made a massive difference. Along with reducing the plastic heat, burning off more of the scent oils etc that everone here recommended.

the_hide
I had a "veterinary" injector, supposedly safe to 250 degrees celcius , burst at the outlet, rather than just pop everywhere it sprayed a lovelly little thin line of plastic across my hair and face. I always wear safefty glasses, but the pearl white plastisol still dripped down my forehead. As fate would have it Something about mary was on that evening and as I turned up for work the following day with white plastisol still hidden in various portions of my hair you can no doubt understand the glee that was extracted from the situation. The something about Mary jokes only subsided after an "anthrax" hoax in Adelaide when someone made less than far fetched association between my poc marked burnt forehead and the afore mentioned bacteria.
