RayRe
Waiting for my first batch of plastic to arrive, so i started making some POP molds. I definitely picked too complicated of a bait to make my first mold out of. I tried making it a two-part mold using these directions. (http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/pouring_plastic_worms.html) I made the top layer too thin and ended up totally breaking it apart. So I said screw it and just made it a one part mold (and it was crappy at that). Melted some really old baits with a pyrex cup and came out with this (After trimming my over-poured plastic). http://www.switchbait.com/forums/ima...a7a1ad94ab.jpg On my first pour I only got about half of the plastic to come out of my pyrex which wasn't enough to fill the cavity. Was my plastic not hot enough or is it expected a proportion of plastic will set on you before you can pour it? I'm waiting for the epoxy to dry on a two cavity swimbait mold, which should be much easier to pour. Great site!
Willy
Hey ray, Your plastic was probibly not hot enough. Once it gets to the liquid state (usually around 1.5mins), keep heating in short bursts, like 10-20 seconds, stirring slowly each time. It will usually take around five of those short bursts to get it really hot. Too long of a burst and you will burn it. Dont stir it and you will burn it. Your first pour isn't bad for a first try. It'll take you a few pours to get the hang of it. I'm new too, and it took me a couple of weeks to get it down well. Hang in there and don't be afariad to ask questions, as the folks on this board are a great bunch and really helpful. But use that search option as most of the answers to a rookies questions are already in posts on here. Plaster is usually refered to as POP on the site. Use that as a search keyword for mold questions. Good luck, Willy
