Uncleskippy
What colors need a base coat of white or no base coat is needed on any color. If you use a base coat of white, does the jigs have to be heated up in a toaster oven to retain the heat needed or can you still use a heat gun? Thanks Uncleskippy
buckslayer
Most powder paints don't need a base coat, which is one of the reasons it is so appealing, as well as the no odor, no mess. I never use a base coat with the pro-tec brand. You don't need to. If you do use a base coat, do all coats at the same time. In other words, heat your jig, dip it in the white, use the heat gun to even the paint out, and then dip it in whatever color you want. You could do it in separate steps, but reheating the jig with the heat gun can cause the first coat to burn if you are not careful.
smalljaw
Never needed a base coat, that why I switched from vinyl to powder.
cadman
I'll agree to all of the statements above if you are doing dark colors. If you are goint to use flo-orange, flo-pink, flo-chart. etc, I strongly suggest you use a white base coat, and then the, flourescent colors. The white brings out the brilliance of those colors. Also you won't have to dip it so many times. If you don't believe me try it for yourself........Ted
LedHed
You should use a base coat with phosphorus colors also. I use a heat gun to pre-heat jigs - you have better temperature control.
