Willy
For example shredded aluminum foil? Colored beads? Floaty objects? What have you tried? I understand many of you are selling your baits and this wouldn't be prudent, but we all still fish, and I asssume we all try to 'lure' the fish in with new ideas. I just tried the shredded aluminum into clear, but it got too dark outside and I have to check it in the morning. Willy
SwampBaits
I once had a june bug fly into my plastic, that's unusual.
nova
I had a piece of skin from my hand when I burned it fall in the pot when I brushed off the plastic. I really wouldn't want to do that on a production level; lol. www.novalures.com
Smallie
I dropped my laser infrared thermometer into the Pyrex cup yesterday. I was switching from my left hand to my right and bringing it around the open microwave door. I hit the door, knocked the thermometer loose and bobbled it into the hot plastic. It was at 300 prior to the last 30 second burst. I quickly put it into the refrigerator for ten minutes and the plastic peeled off of everything but the infrared light, the lense cover for the temp sensor and the lense cover for the readout. My fingernail and a rag took care of this. It seems to work okay after this screw up.
bojon
I have used sand, oil pastels, regular sewing thread, plastic eyes, and of course salt.I tried brown sugar one time, because I wanted that color, this was a mistake. What a mess. BassnRandy
I have used BB gun BB's to add weight to a bait, but not much else other than glass eyes.
dampeoples
I tried Nil's trick once, same results. I've thought about the plastic BB's to make a floater, but my son shot them all up, and I forget every time I go to the store. Would be problematic getting them to suspend, though, I suppose. nova
I use BBs to make my swimming frog. I've also tried very fine colored glass beads to add weight but they settle very quickly. www.novalures.com
One Sock
I once had a june bug fly into my plastic, that's unusual. You would think...lol, I had a big june bug fly right into a cup of hot plastic as I was getting ready to pour..It was like a plane hitting the side of a mountain. He sits on my shelf..the funny part is I was pouring junebug sticks. I was laughing for hours, but thenagain I'm easily amused
One Sock
Here are things I have tried Minced garlic----not good aluminum foil, ehhh ok but not for production crayons- not bad for adding small amounts of a different color, some very bad reactions on certain brands, not recommended styrofoam- what the hell was I thinking? BB's- nothing would come out consistent Glass rattles- absolutely the best thing i ever poured into a stick Countless amounts of sweat- hell the stuff drips off me here in South west Ohio. Numerous Bugs- they land in my open plastic container, I see them as i pour, free meat as far as I'm concerned Canola oil- another dumb idea Human hair- laid it across the stick mold, closed the mold then poured. This actually was pretty neat as the sticks were very fuzzy. Downside...short supply of hair since I hit my late 30's, but I do have two dogs so i might revisit it Liver juice- I have no idea as I hate liver, the dogs munched on a few worms, then spit them out Blood- Drained from a piece of steak, they actually caught some decent fish, but I rarely eat steak, the only other source for blood is the spouse of mine, but that's not a question I want to ask once a month
earthworm77
I've had like swarms of misquitoes or white flies just commit mass suicude in my Pyrex pot. As long as it is a dark color, no problem.
g3kk0
This thread made me laugh...Now I know where OneSock gets his "spotted" stick ideas... The hair one got me too...I picture a stick with a trump comb-over. The Mullet...All business in the front, party in the back...
Willy
LAWL! Sir Sock, funny list. My wife read it too, and she just huffed and walked away at the last item. I didn't notice as I was doubled over at the time. The aluminum bits I added settled really fast. They looked ok, but dont try to reheat that plastic! POP SNAP in the microwave. But the plastic sure remelted in a hurry! Great posts all. Willy
Mattlures
I have tried just about everything. If you guys want a tip.......fish food. You know for your aquariumfish. Oh and chrushed glass is interesting (who ever said it makes plastic float is an , well he was wrong) chocolate powder for hot cocoa. Makes the plastic smell just like chocolate. Thats the negative. The posative is it makes avery nice deep rich brown color. Inks work but stink. Sugar burns at high temps and stinks. aluminum powder, metal shavings, gold leaf. they have make unique efects. there are lots of things that work but alot more that dont. One Sock
The hair one got me too...I picture a stick with a trump comb-over. The Mullet...All business in the front, party in the back... ahh the hair.... let me tell you the story behind it.... I have a good friend who use to fish with me a lot before I moved. We use to have all sorts of bets when we would go out. One day we decided to up the ante, and have a hair bet. The first bass caught would win and the other guy would have to get his head shaven bald.. Well we needed neutral water so we went to the delaware river and decided on bank fishing, we were there for about ten minutes when I felt a tap on my 3 inch senko bait. I set the hook and had a little fish running around in circles. When I reeled in it was a 5 inch smallmouth. My friend was devastated, started swearing it was a walleye. I was laughing so hard my stomach hurt. The next day he showed up at 6 am before work to get the hair done, I shaved him down and he started walking towards his car. I said " wait, your not bald" he muttered some obscenities and headed to the bathroom for the razor and shaving cream. I scooped up all the hair and put it in a bag. that night I tied some jigs with his hair, we went fishing the next day and I took out one of the jigs and caught a monster pickerel. he asked what I was using and I showed him it was his hair. He didn't believe me until I pulled out the bag. lol since then we had all sorts of bets, hair bets, wear a dress bet, wear a bra and panties bet( i should not have taken that bet, even though I won, he looked really nasty in the thong at 6 am and 8 am and 10 am and noon). I have yet to be on the end of a losing bet with him, thank god but talk about a rush when your fishing to save your dignity, the adrenellin starts pumping with every hookset Oh I did lose one bet, first to catch a pickerel the other guy would have to put it in his back pocket for 3 minutes, damn thing bit my ass, drew blood and everything. It was quickly released and i swore I saw it smile We are thinking of putting a DVD together with all the bets we do, wonder if it would sell??? Nothing right about it:nuhuh:
bojon
I found some glass beads, along the highway years ago.The kind added to paint to reflect lightA couple of handfuls had spilled.Tried it in a worm mold worked ok.Like sand it will settle to the bottom of the mold.I didn't find this a problem. They sank like a Senko.Worked well wacky style, but, like the Senko it was almost one worm one fish. GB GONE
I have ground up fish scales before. Don't recommend that. It ends up a burned mess and very hard to dry well. Best thing I have added is powdered scent from Upper Hand Scents. It was like adding salt almost but scented. Worked great but discolored the plastic really bad. Eveything was brown or a shade of brown. SOCK... The video is a seriously funny idea but the PITA people will be on you if it appears you harmed a fish (or bait)... I'd pay for video like that though!!!
One Sock
SOCK... The video is a seriously funny idea but the PITA people will be on you if it appears you harmed a fish (or bait)... I'd pay for video like that though!!! Nah we wouldn't harm any fish not even those nasty pickerel. I did however once catch a crappie and throw it like a chinese star, the sucker inhaled a small jig and it bled to death. I kept it in the boat when I saw my buddy fishing I chucked it. He held up his hand and that little fish cut him right open,,,still wish I had that on video One of the lakes we fish is right down the road from Pocono raceway. We were thinking of dressing my nephew up as a bass then reeling him in and holding him up while my buddy took the picture, we figured with all the people stuck on that road during race weekend for nascar that the looks on their faces would be priceless We still haven't gotten the nerve up for a cat food bet, every fish caught results in a teaspoon of catfood for the other guy...just can't get up the nerve to do it...there are no winners in that bet lol:nuhuh:
GB GONE
LMAO.... Have you guys seen the Aliens fishing for Humans video? Funny!! I can't seem to upload it though, it keeps failing... I know I have set the hook on a fish and it fly out of the water and hit my non-boater before... Laughed the whole rest of the day!!! Caught the same fish with my non-boater before also. We pulled against each other for a while.. 3 stooges stuff!!! Jim
nova
Funny you should say that Jim. My partner hits me with fish at least once every tourny. It's quite a shock when it happens because most times you don't see it coming; and then wack, you get hit with that cold wet fish. Really gets your attention;lol. www.novalures.com
One Sock
Hey Jim want to laugh some time, tie both of your lines to one hook, have one person just open his bail and the other person cast. It's was so funny when we both felt the "tap" and then set the hook. The fish never knew what hit it.
nova
I'm starting to worry about you Randy; lol. Catfood; fish in the back pocket, shaving heads. I'm almost afraid to see what come next. www.novalures.com
One Sock
Well I don't bet very much anymore since i moved, not too many oppurtunity's to fish out here with 25 days in the 90's and 5 in the 100's the fishing has been slow this past summer. As for what's next it's a 10 hour drive to wisconsin for an upcoming tournament on Boom lake. Temps will be in the lower 70's and raining both days( hopefully they are wrong), I'll be putting my baits to the test, so i've been pouring non stop for the past few days, headed over to basspro shops today and loaded up on shakey heads, hooks and drop shot weights...while I was there I saw some new terminator spinnerbaits for 7.99 each somekind of diamond series... No thank you!! I was never impressed with their quality anyway. I head out tuesday night wish me luck guys and play nice while I'm away.. BassnRandy
Hey Sock. We were just on Boom for another tourny. Smallies are tight to the wood and won't touch anything that doesnt resemble a craw. Got afew on crankbaits. The rest were on chompers and hula type grubs.
