Wire weed guards

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am playing around with making a weedless tube jig, and I am done trying to use fiber. I had a couple gami's weedless EWG hooks that I cut the wire guard off and modified a 90 deg jig head mold to accept these and it worked pretty good!

Problem I cant find these available at the usual sources. The ones I am looking for are made of a very thine wire and have a loop at the top that fits right in behind the barb on the jig hook. These are nice because not much pressure is required to collapse the guard as compared to the fiber.

Here is a pic of the guard

how many do you need?

I have plenty

Jigmaster,

Well, I was thinking of making 100 or so to test them out and see how they work. I used the 2 I made on Monday and they worked pretty good. I caught a bunch of fish before losing them to the rocks anyway, but they lasted longer than most of the open hook jigheads I make.

So if you have some extra that you would like to sell I would gladly buy them off you. If that is too many let me know how many you would like to sell, any amount would help me figure out if this is a worth while venture.

Smalljaw,

I just make supplies to fuel my habit usually, I fish 2-3 days a week and I fish some nasty rivers here in NEPA and go through an enormous amount of jigs. If I can get a supply of the weed guards I would be happy to get some to you, though. I have found a company that sells something that looks almost exactly what I have come up with. The company name is "Oldhams" I just ordered a couple bags of 3 jigheads per bag at $3 A BAG! And they only use an Eagle claw hook, a $.02 hook, $.02 in lead and whatever the weed guard costs. $1 each is too steep, but just to see what they did different would be worth to have a couple here.

Thanks,

SS
