braveviper
I made a rtv mold for pouring lead.Im having trouble keeping the 2 halfs together while pouring. The molten lead finds gaps and leaks out.Ive tried a vice and wire ties.I was thinking of velcro straps. Delw
lead with RTV molds, that sounds dangerous especially for a 2 piece mold. you will never get a RTV 2 piece mold to go together perfectly its to soft and moves a lot. Bondo works good for lead molds
nova
Try 1/4" piece of plywood on each side covering the whole mold; hold them with spring clamps. That should keep the rtv in place. www.novalures.com
JBlaze
Nova is correct, that is what I do and it works fine. The problem I have pouring lead into an RTV mold is heat dissapation or the lack of it. THe mold will get very hot with just a few pours so be careful when handling it while placing the two halves together. Your casting will also be much hotter than it would be if it were cast in an aluminum mold. John Try 1/4" piece of plywood on each side covering the whole mold; hold them with spring clamps. That should keep the rtv in place. http://www.novalures.com/' rel="external nofollow">
LedHed
"lead with RTV molds, that sounds dangerous especially for a 2 piece mold" - Ditto Hilts use to sell a kit that you could use with high temp RTV.
