whttail101
I am looking for a mold that can replicate the action of the soft jointed swimbait that is sold by Lake Fork Tackle, Imakatsu Garage Craft, and Poor Boy's Baits? I'm not looking for the exact one, just something kinda similar I would prefer at least a 2 cavity. I have tried searching the posts, all over the net, and even asked Lake Fork Tackle and Lure Craft. They both said that since they sell the bait after production, they will not sell the molds. Please, any help will be greatly appreciated. whttail101
jmik26, I already read through those posts. One, like me, wants to find it and no-one knows where to get the mold, and the other just complains about Lake Fork Tackle stealing the idea from Imakatsu. whttail101
dampeoples, thank you for the info. I will email them right now. I just look at it this way, I would rather make my own, the colors I want, instead of having to pay $6 for a 6-pack. Thanks Again, Dean
dampeoples
Yes, that's why we're here! There are/were tutorials for making your own molds, that particular bait has been done by a member here already, so it's definately doable
whttail101
Great. I will have to search through and find the tutorials. I was thinking of making making some of my own molds later, one step at a time, right. I look forward to learning a lot from you guys. jmik26
In one of the post it tells you that Bob made it. "Bob cut it...Zack drew it.... "
David Reid
Dean, I believe Del made up one for his own use and to test the idea and concept out but dont know if he is considering going ahead or not. He did warn me they are not easy to make or pour and they may cost up to $200 which is pretty pricey. Thems the breaks I suppose as we say. I would certainly be interested myself if they were more around the $140-150 mark. I dont know about Shawn Collins or Bobs Takleshop and how close their concept was but maybe they are all approaching it slightly differently which wouldnt suprise me as I have seen a variety of reports from sheer positive to negative with someone I contacted telling me they are by far his favourite soft bait and he now used them all the time to others saying they dont think they work very well. I would have thought they would be pretty good as the videos I have seen of them show they have an unreal action. I can see them being quickly nailed fished properly. By their nature they are more a product that would be more suitable to higher pressure injection molding I would imagine. I saw some recently from Prologic under the brand name Savage which seems to be a company that concentrates on Catfish. See here: http://www.prologicfishing.com/about.asp Ask Del maybe and if there are several people then he may get around to it.
Travis
This is not that difficult of a mold to make out of durham's and rock puddy. I did not find them to be all that great of a bait to be honest. As long as enough vents are made in the bait it pours fine in a durhams. I can see why aluminum would be difficult. Delw
Travis, I have found that some baits poured in POP and especially silicon are a lot eaiser to pour then in alum molds. of course you don't get the detail like you would in a alum mold especially with silicon pouring. Vodkaman
That is probably because the aluminium transmits heat very efficiently whereas POP is a heat insulator.
Travis
I agree with you two (Del and Vodkaman) about the aluminum molds. I like the aluminum molds a lot and they are excellent for all the details they pick up and durability and ease of use. This is just one that isn't too bad to mold using durham's or pop. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/TravisH/IM000507.jpg
whttail101
Collins emailed me back and said the can make an aluminum one for $250, little out of my range. They were the only one so far that said they ca make one for me. I may try to make one myself if I get brave enough. So far I have only tested these baits in small lakes, 4 acres or less. In those it worked real good. I just havent had the chance to make it out to a real lake with them yet. If anyone here wants to shoot me a price of one they make, one that has the right action and doesnt spin, PLMK. Dean
whttail101
Travis, I couldn't find durham on here, and I emailed Pop. Do they sell these molds? Those do look great.
David Reid
Dont know Durhams but this is probably the company and can supply what you want I imagine: http://www.waterputty.com/
Travis
Follow the link by David. That is Durham's Rock Puddy. I like it better that POP (plaster of paris). I usually pick my Durham's up at Ace Tru Value. I made the molds myself.
